Jennifer Hickam Flenniken '05

Jennifer Hickam Flenniken graduated from the SLHS Masters Program in 2005. Her experience at SLHS and in her work since has been productive and diverse. Jennifer completed internships in hospital and public school settings. During her Internship at University Hospital, she completed evaluations and treatments for children through adults with a variety of communication, swallowing, and neurological disorders. After her internship with Denver Public Schools, she was hired and provided services for 6 more years, working with children ages 3 through 17. She spent 1 & 1/2 years on a Multilingual Assessment Services Team (MAST), completing evaluations for Spanish speaking students across the district. She has implemented both individual and small group therapy sessions to improve language, pragmatics, articulation, fluency, and learning disabilities with both Spanish and English speaking students. Jennifer has worked with students with severe emotional/behavioral problems in center based programs, as well as many students with Autism. She has also provided home based therapy for medically fragile individuals, as well as 2-5 year olds with various mild to moderate communication deficits.
 
Jennifer has a passion for working with Spanish speaking students and their families believing strongly in providing  evaluation and treatment of Spanish speaking children in their Native language. She also believes in approaching assessment and treatment utilizing a “whole child” approach. Jennifer is an advocate for working with families and students to maximize therapy results. She is bilingual (Spanish/English) and specializes in assessment and interventions for Spanish speaking populations. 
 
Jennifer has established her own business, Colorado Bilingual Speech Therapy, specializing in the prevention, evaluation, treatment of speech language disorders in English and Spanish. In addition to intervention her business provides screening & consultation for preschools and daycare centers, and education for parents, families, students and other professionals.
